Residents and visitors

Week 09; 02 March 2018 - Green Island

I had no plans after tennis, so a short drive up Gulf Road and I was at Green Island for a pleasant walk after paying a 1 KD entrance fee.

Once I was through the main arch, I could already hear the distinctive call of the male Rüppell's Weaver and it didn't take me long to find him feverishly displaying around some of his new built nests and bringing in fresh nesting material.

In fact one of them had a female 'in residence', so that is success for the male who builds multiple nests in the hope of attracting at least one female.

Elsewhere I had a confiding and stunning male Ménétriés’s Warbler, albeit too briefly.

There were a number of Gulls around in the small lagoon inside the perimeter of the island, mostly Common Black-headed

But also Steppe

And a single Great Black-headed
