A quiet day in Jahra

Week 03; 19 January 2018 - Jahra Farm and Jahra Pools

After a morning of tennis in overcast conditions, I headed up the coast, stopping at Jahra Farms first.

A couple of Common House Martin's were seen above the farm. Obviously these were checked a little more carefully after last years mega eastern Martin's that were found at JPR.

Common House Martin (Delichon urbicum)

Not much else at the farm, so across the freeway to JPR. A Common Sandpiper was seen in one of the small pools.

Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos)
Whilst down at the beach, Gull-billed Terns were patrolling up and down the coast line

Gull-billed Tern (Gelochelidon nilotica)
And a Great Black-headed Gull cruised by low over the waves

Great Black-headed Gull (Leucophaeus ichthyaetus)
On the way back to the gate, this small rodent ran across the road - I suspect it is a young Brown Rat (although the tail was quite short)? I only managed to get an image from behind after stopping the car

Brown Rat?
