The Eagles have returned

Week 41; 14 October 2017 - JPR

We arrived at JPR at our usual time to conduct the transect.

At the big pool, we said hello to our old friend the Western Marsh Harrier

Female Western Marsh Harrier (Circus aeruginosus)
Eurasian Teal was a new Duck species not recorded previously

Eurasian Teal (Anas crecca)
On the drive around the reserve, we picked up Daurian Shrike

Daurian Shrike (Lanius isabellinus)
And our first Black-eared Wheatear

Eastern Black-eared Wheatear (Oenanthe h. melanoleuca)
No Godwit in their regular pool but rather a Spotted Redshank which was a welcome addition to the list - sadly not in breeding plumage

Spotted Redshank (Tringa erythropus)
Skulking quietly at the base of the reeds was a Little Crake

Little Crake (Zapornia parva)
We know winter is around the corner when the Greater Spotted Eagles arrive at JPR and today was that day - welcome back!
