Lingering spring migrants

Week 21; 26 May 2018 - Al Abraq

This was a solo trip to the Abraq farm in the west as the temps start ratcheting up for summer.

A quick walk only produced a Spotted Flycatcher

Spotted Flycatcher (Muscicapa striata)

Whilst a drive around gave an obliging, but late Greater Spotted Eagle

Greater Spotted Eagle (Aquila clanga)

Along with two birds you wouldn't expect this far west in the desert; Wood Sandpiper

Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola)

and a out of place Common Snipe

Common Sandpiper (Gallinago gallinago)

Eurasian Golden Oriole was seen in the trees adjacent to the fields

Eurasian Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus)

Birds were really thin on the ground, so had a look for invertebrates finding Clouded Yellow

Common Clouded Yellow (Colias croceus)

and Green-striped White

Green-striped White (Euchloe bulima)

There were a couple of Darter type dragonflies - I still have to get to grips with identifying these

Some desert plants were flowering - not sure which these are either?

From here a longish drive back home, with some typical desert landscape on the way
