A mixed bag

Week 17; 25 April 2017 - Gulf Road and JPR

Was a little late this morning, so not too much time available to stop, other than for this Yellow-headed Wagtail

Yellow-headed Wagtail (Motacilla f/t. lutea)
However, after work had a quick visit to Jahra Pools which is made easier with the new freeways that are now finished. A slow drive around the reserve gave Common Sandpiper foraging to it's heart content with all the midges on the water surface

Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos)
A Wood Sandpiper followed suit

Wood Sandpiper (Tringa glareola)
A Red-backed Shrike was seen roosting in the reeds while the temperatures slowly subsided

Red-backed Shrike (Lanius collurio)
A Western Osprey made an appearance over the bigger pool

Western Osprey (Pandion haliaetus)
The highlight was finding a pair of intimate White-tailed Lapwings - lets hope they have breeding success this season

White-tailed Lapwing (Vanellus leucurus)
There were quite a number of Dragonflies about, not 100% sure of this species

Dragonfly sp.

This is one of the Emperor's

Vagrant Emperor (Hemianax ephippiger)
